Torpedoes grab 2008 5C's League Championship
For the second straight year, the Tipp-Monroe Swim Team Torpedoes swam to victory at the 5 Counties League Championships. At the Championship Meet at Versailles, on July 19, the Torpedoes were in a nip-and-tuck battle with Minster and Versailles the entire day. The meet, which began at 9 a.m. and was completed at 3 p.m., saw the lead change hands several times before the Torpedoes finally pulled ahead for good.
“I knew the other teams would be trying their best to defuse the Torpedoes,” said Tipp coach, Tim Rambeau, “but our swimmers captured just enough freestyle relay points at the end to win it all.” Around a thousand people on the hot, sweltering day witnessed the Torpedoes win 3 of the final 8 Freestyle Relays. Tipp Freestyle Relay teams also won many points by taking 2 seconds and 3 thirds, which helped the Torpedoes to slip past Minster by a mere 12.5 points. Minster, by contrast, took two 1sts. two 2nds and a 3rd in the final 8 Free Relays.

The 6 teams could each enter 2 swimmers in every individual event (maximum 3 individual events per swimmer). Points awarded for each individual event were 7-5-4-3-2-1 for 1st place through 6th place. For Tipp, Evan Arnett won all three of his individual events. Lauren Subler finished 1st in two events. Winners of single events were Mason Doll, Joshua Walland, Noah Blake, Sidney Roemke, Alex Hamilton, Augusta Grescowle, Logan Subler, and Hanna Gaskins.
Every swim-team could enter 2 relay teams in each relay event. The top 6 teams in each relay were awarded 14-10-8-6-4-2 points for 1st through 6th place. Five Tipp relay teams captured blue ribbons: Medley Relays: Boys 8 & Under (Walland, Blake, Doll, Garber); Girls 15-18 (Lo. Subler, Gaskins, Rambeau, Nimer); Free Relays: Girls 9-10 (Arnett, Benjamin, C. Cahill, Williams); Girls 13-14 (Schober, Layman, Grescowle, La. Subler); Girls 15-18 (Dillahunt, Gaskins, Renner, Lo. Subler). Also, the Girls 11-12 Free Relay teams captured a 2nd (Bell, Sedam, Roemke, Kinnison) and a 3rd (Howard, Elam, Walland, B. Cahill).
In addition, 43 other Torpedo swimmers won points at the Championships, and with the closeness of the meet, every point became extremely important.

TMST Torpedoes overwhelm Versailles Tiger Sharks
Winning 14 Relays and 40 individual events, the Tipp-Monroe Swim Team Torpedoes toppled the previously unbeaten Versailles Tiger Sharks by an overwhelming score of 455-316 on July 10. Another overflow crowd of hundreds at the Tipp Family Aquatic Center witnessed the Torpedoes 4th straight dual meet win in 4 tries.
Coming in first place in 3 events each were Adam Snapp, Hanna Gaskins, Callum Empson, Lauren Subler, Adam Buynak, Evan Arnett, and Cameron Cahill. Taking 2 blue ribbons each were Bradley Kramer, Joshua Walland, Brendan Clawson, and Sidney Roemke. Eleven other Tipp swimmers also won their individual events.
Special mention goes to the TMST 13-year old boys-- Jake Maus, Alex Sedam, and Callum Empson--who participated in and won all 7 of the 13-14 Boys individual and relay events at the meet. In addition, Sedam and Maus also combined to swim to 3 second-place finishes.

Small Torpedo teams fare well at Invitationals
Small groups of intrepid Tipp-Monroe Swim Team Torpedoes travelled to Arcanum and Eaton for invitational swim meets and did well, despite their limited numbers.
200 swimmers are on the TMST, but only 23 swam in the Eaton Invitational on June 28. After an hour long thunderstorm delay, Tipp came in 3rd behind host Preble County (Eaton) and Arcanum, both of whom brought many more swimmers to the meet. Richmond, Indiana came in 4th, and the Far Hills Country Club was 5th.
Winning blue ribbons for Tipp were Arielle and Evan Arnett, Hannah Benjamin, Callum Empson, Haley Miller, Adam Snapp, and Jessica and Joshua Walland. Other Torpedo point winners were Amanda Benjamin, Lyndsey Browning, Ethan Dahle, Tristan Empson, Adam and Victoria Gunckel, Kaitlin Knife, Bradley Kramer, Taylor McIntosh, Meredith Richters, Emily Rickmon, Alex Sedam, and Jacob Walland.
Tipp took 2nd place in three relays: Boys 9-10 100Meter Medley Relay (Josh Walland, T Empson, Kramer and E Arnett), Girls 11-12 100M Freestyle Relay (Beth Agins, A Benjamin, Hannah Benjamin (age 10) and Gunckel), and Boys 15-18 100M Free Relay (C Empson (age 13), Sedam (13), E Arnett (10), Snapp (15)).
At the Arcanum Invitational on June 21st, 43 Torpedoes swam and Tipp finished 2nd overall. Cameron Cahill, Evan Arnett and Adam Snapp each won the most points in their age groups and took home 1st place trophies. For the day long meet, Tipp swimmers won 14 individual events and 7 of the 20 relay events.

Tipp Torpedoes bomb Botkins Barracudas
The Tipp-Monroe Swim Team Torpedoes journeyed up I-75 to Botkins on June 19 and emerged with a convincing 491-275 victory. Tipp had a good turnout for the meet and dominated by winning 17 of the 20 Relay events.
Winning 3 individual events each for Tipp were Cameron Cahill, Evan Arnett, Alex Hamilton, Jay Schairbaum, Hanna Gaskins, and Adam Snapp. Torpedo double winners were Alissa Buynak, Mason Doll, Arielle Arnett, Emily Doll, Bailey Cahill, Jessica Walland, Samantha Nimer, and Kyle Osborn. And 14 other Tipp swimmers also won individual events.

Tipp Torpedoes sink Troy Tidal Waves
In front of another large crowd of several hundred, the Tipp-Monroe Swim Team Torpedoes sank the Troy Tidal Waves 430 to 341. The meet, held at the Tipp Pool on June 17, saw Tipp in the lead from the initial to the final event.
The Torpedoes finished first in 11 Relays. Cameron Cahill, Sidney Roemke, Lauren Subler, and Hannah Gaskins each won 3 individual events, while Alissa Buynak. Mason Doll, Evan Hamilton, Evan Arnett, and Jay Schairbaum were winners of 2 events each. 18 other Tipp swimmers also won individual events.

Torpedoes trounce Minster
The Tipp-Monroe Swim Team powered past the Minster Marlins 434.5 to 339.5, on June 12 at the Tipp Family Aquatic Center. Minster, a perennially strong team, was no match for the Torpedoes, who won in front of a large crowd of several hundred fans.
Winning 3 events each for the Torpedoes were Hanna Gaskins, Evan Arnett, Jay Schairbaum, Callum Empson, and Adam Snapp. Winners of 2 events each were Cameron Cahill, Emily Rickmon, and Jay Bell. In addition, 20 other TMST swimmers each won an individual event, and the Torpedoes won blue ribbons in 9 relays.
